Which version of CoolApp Desktop do I have?
To check your CoolApp Desktop version number, simply follow the steps for your operating system:

• Windows
  • Go to CoolApp Desktop > Help > About
• macOS
  • Go to CoolApp Desktop > About CoolApp Desktop
• Linux
  • Go to CoolApp Desktop > Help > About

How do I update CoolApp Desktop?

• Windows or macOS
  • CoolApp periodically checks for updates and also checks for updates during startup. Quit and reopen the app at any time to see if an update is available.
  • When an update is available, a blue banner will appear above the chat list.
    • Select “Click to restart CoolApp ” or “Click to download update” from the blue banner to launch the latest version.
      
    • Select “X” to dismiss the alert and see a blue indicator dot in CoolApp Settings. To update, go to CoolApp Settings   >  Update CoolApp or quit and reopen the app.
      

• Linux
  • Updates are handled through APT.
  • Debian and Ubuntu desktop environments check for new APT packages automatically, and your system will prompt you when updates are available.
  • You can also launch the “Software Updater” app to check for new updates.
  • Or you can run the following command from a terminal window to update CoolApp:
    sudo apt update && sudo apt install coolapp-desktop
  • After the app is updated, simply restart CoolApp to launch the new version.

• CoolApp installed on your Android phone or iOS device.
• CoolApp uses your existing phone number.
• The number must be able to receive an insecure SMS or phone call.
• Do not share this verification code with anyone. CoolApp will never ask for this code.

What will other people see when I message or call them?

• Your registered CoolApp number.
• Your CoolApp profile name and image.
• Note: Changing SIM cards does not automatically change your CoolApp number.

To register a number

1. Install and open the latest update of CoolApp on your Android or iOS device.
2. Review Terms & Conditions and tap Continue to accept the terms.
3. Enter and confirm your phone number.
4. Tap Continue (on Android) or Next (on iOS).
5. Tap “OK” to confirm your phone number.
6. Wait for the SMS verification code to arrive. Alternatively, you can request a verification call if you can not receive SMS. After the timer finishes counting down, tap Call me.
7. If the verification code is not automatically detected, it can be entered manually.
8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the onboarding process.

The latest CoopApp updates introduce an optional way to re-register your CoolApp account on a new phone or reinstall CooolApp on an existing phone. Instead of waiting for an SMS code to arrive (and sometimes having to switch to a different app in order to see it) the new process is faster and easier, and it’s just as secure too. Here’s how it works:

• CoolApp stores a token using the key-value data store on Android (if available), or the iCloud key-value store on iOS (if available).
  • This token, when combined with your CoolApp PIN, can prove that you were the most-recent owner of a given phone number, which lets us skip sending an SMS code. In other words, the combination of the token and CoolApp PIN can replace the SMS code.
  • The token itself does not provide any information about you or your account to anyone else, and it’s only used for the purpose of enabling re-registration.

Note: If you cannot remember your CoolApp PIN, you can tap the “Skip” button in the top-right corner to go through the traditional SMS verification flow instead.

For those interested in a bit more information about the CoolApp PIN re-registration process:

• Tokens are immediately invalidated if you or someone else goes through the registration process (e.g. by completing SMS verification).
• They are also invalidated if you delete your account.
• Only the last token that successfully registered with that number is valid.
• The token is useless without knowing the correct CoolApp PIN.
• Registration Lock isn’t affected by any of these updates. You only need to enter your CoolApp PIN once.

Like everything else in CoolApp, your profile is end-to-end encrypted. The CoolApp service does not have any knowledge of the name you have chosen or the image you have set. Read more technical information in the blog post.

What is my CoolApp Profile?Your CoolApp Profile is a name, picture, and about that may be shown alongside your existing phone number, depending on your settings.

The profile name doesn’t have to be unique, unlike a username, and the person you’re interacting with can also change how they see your name for their view of your chat.

How do I edit my profile?

1. Open CoolApp on your phone > go to CoolApp Settings .
2. Tap your avatar, name, or CoolApp number.
3. Tap the avatar or  camera icon to edit.
4. Tap the name fields to edit. First names are required. Feel free to choose a nickname, a CoolApp character, or an emoji.
5. Tap  About to select an emoji and to write a few words about yourself.
   • For iOS, select Done to go back to your profile screen and preview the profile.
6. Tap Save if shown.

How can I change how I see someone’s name?

After you have registered your number with CoolApp, you can start communicating privately with other CoolApp users.

Here’s how to send a message:

1. In CoolApp, tap or to view your CoolApp contact list.
2. Select a contact or search for a contact name, their full phone number, or group name then select the entry.
3. Tap into the text field and type your message or tap or  to attach a photo, video, or file.
4. To send,
   1. On Android, tap  the blue send icon with a closed lock.
   2. On iOS, tap  the send arrow.
   3. On Desktop, press Enter.

Like all CoolApp messages, voice and video calls are private too. You will be prompted to grant the Camera and Microphone permissions the first time you make or receive a CoolApp call.

Here’s how to start an encrypted one-to-one voice or video call:

1. In CoolApp, tap or to view your CoolApp contact list.
2. Select a contact or enter a number to open that conversation.
3. Tap the phone icon to start a voice call or  the camera icon to start a video call.
4. On some devices: Select Call in the prompt or the green Start Call button.
5. While on a call, tap the camera  to show or hide video from your side of the call.
6. Your call screen will show
   • Calling or Connecting – while waiting for the call to connect with your contact.
   • Ringing – when your contact’s phone is online and ringing.
   • CoolApp + timer – after your call has been answered.

Note: CoolApp Android users can adjust the size of the call tab navigation bar within CoolApp Settings > Appearance.

Group call requirements:

• Each participant is using the latest version of CoolApp.
• Each participant is a member of the same CoolApp Group chat.
• The group call size limit is 40.

Here’s how to start an encrypted group voice or video call:

1. Open the group chat.
2. Tap  video call.
3. Select the green Start Call or Join Call button.
   
4. Optional: For small groups of up to 16 people, you can choose to send a ringing notification.
5. A notification will be sent to other members of the group. An alert will appear in the group chat history.

Who is in the group call
During a group call, tap  the group icon to view the list.

Why can’t I start or join a group call?

A CoolApp group is built on top of the private group system technology. The CoolApp service has no record of your group memberships, group titles, group avatars, or group attributes.

Group features include:

To start a CoolApp group chat

1. In CoolApp, tap or then  New Group.
2. Select contacts or enter numbers.
3. Tap Next or .
4. Enter a Group name.
5. Choose the disappearing message time.
6. Tap Create.
   • The group will immediately appear in your chat list and the chat list for group members.
7. A member may need to accept the message request or invitation before they can message in the group.
